Mike Caston

Founder & Event Director

Michael Caston, a seasoned baseball professional with a rich background in coaching and player development, brings a wealth of experience to the Oilmen. A former standout player at Valparaiso University, Caston was a four-year letterwinner as a pitcher and infielder from 1999-2002 and earned Spring Academic-All Mid-Continent Conference accolades. Caston's coaching career is highlighted by his tenure as the Head Baseball Coach at Chicago State University, where he led the Cougars to several notable victories, including a win over nationally ranked Pepperdine and victories against MAC Conference schools such as Akron, Western Michigan, and Ball State. During his time at Chicago State, he mentored an All-American and First Team All-Great West student-athlete and guided the team to a top 40 national ranking in team batting average in 2012. In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Caston has served as an assistant coach for Calumet College of St. Joseph and as head and assistant coach for the semi- pro Steel City Giants in Gary, Indiana. His extensive experience includes recruiting, developing, and mentoring student-athletes, as well as managing all aspects of a baseball program, including scheduling, fundraising, and maintaining NCAA and NAIA compliance. Caston, who currently resides in Hammond, Indiana, and serves as Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Varsity Football Coach at Hammond Central, expressed his enthusiasm for the new role. In his first season with the Northwest Indiana Oilmen Baseball Club, he led them to their 5 th Northern League Championship.
